To celebrate the end of its 20-year anniversary year, YouTube has introduced its first-ever YouTube Recap, where users can get a personalized glimpse into their viewing habits, favorite creators, and content patterns from the past 12 months.
The feature – which is now live at youtube.com/recap, and accessible via the You tab in the YouTube app – gives a deep dive into each user’s year on the platform, similar to Spotify Wrapped or Instagram Playback.
A Look Back at Your Year on YouTube
The new YouTube Recap experience shows:
- Your most-watched channels
- Your best videos
- Your viewing trends
A customized “YouTube Personality Type,” such as Wonder Seeker, Trend Tracker, or Deep Diver
Creators and viewers alike have already begun sharing their Recap results online, and it’s quickly become one of the platform’s most popular and universal end-of-year moments.
YouTube employees and public figures have also shared their own Recap types, including the Wonder Seeker personality: defined by curiosity and exploration, someone who discovers content across a variety of categories.
Rolling Out Globally This Week
The Recap feature initially launched in North America, and YouTube has since confirmed it will roll out to the rest of the world throughout the week.
The introduction is the company’s effort to give their viewers a more interactive, engaging, and reflective end-of-year experience — something its fans have been asking for for years.
Celebrating 20 Years of YouTube
As YouTube closes out its milestone birthday year, the Recap is seen as a symbolic celebration of two decades of:
- creator culture
- global communities
- Long-form and short-form evolution
- music, education, entertainment, and livestreaming
Used by billions of people worldwide, the personalized Recap is going to become an annual tradition that will bring YouTube closer to its global audience.
