OpenRouter just made life easier for any project looking to keep token costs down.

With the new update, v8.2.2, OpenRouter supports more options for free models so that users can comfortably choose any model option they need without having to spend any extra money. It’s a very practical upgrade, especially for developers and teams who will be running lots of tests, experiments, or daily workflows.

Instead of defaulting to paid models every single time, users can now route more requests through free options and save tokens where it actually counts.

This update was made possible thanks to community contributor @CodeNDagger, who supported expanding OpenRouter’s model support — yet another strong example of how open ecosystems move faster together.

Small update, a significant change.
